Ortem 014 takes a trip down to the arcade for some analogue antics.
Kop-Z at the controls, fires the listener off into ‘Game Based Horror’.

This is a journey into a different time, space and dimension. Z pushes the joystick and we jump into the title track as we enter via a static field and hi hats. A two step filters and vocals introduce bass, reminiscent of a jazz stand up, and a real low pad. Punctuation is via wooden hits and a bubbling undercurrent. The track breaks, the vocals get mathematical, before we launch back into it.

Ways Of Relief is all hard kicks and ominous low pad, which combine with a mid range drone. Congas echo in and out, and a swarm of electronic wasps come over the horizon. Fragmented beats catch the end of bars, and robots try to ascertain the next course of action. Relief is achieved briefly mid way through the track, only for the drones to reappear firing shattered break beats into the ether. The waspish synth returns as the track does anything but offer relief.

A.I heralds a Reece style bass and a Machina who is witnessing fresh experiences. The vocals signpost the track which develops into a heady mix of cosmic winds, pads and breaks. The A.I is in full control of the game and bombards the aural with its sound and envelopes with its whole being.

We find ourselves spat out ‘Beyond” as our intensive journey through different scenarios and platforms continue. There is no let up and we find a multi levelled stepper, weaved with patois, metal scrapes and a rumble that won’t let go.

The Game is on ……..and it don’t stop.
