about

Ortem notches up its second release in the shape of the 'Scrap Metal Man' EP. Another self penned work by the man at the controls, Metro.

The scene is set by the EP's title track, which is all menace and metal. Stripped back to the bone beats support drones, an eerie alarm, bass and a sense of something approaching.

Plod starts with the distant echo of machinery and comes into focus via the inner workings represented by the 2 step break, over laced
with vocal snippets, a nervous laugh, ethereal trains and sweeps of a ghostly subway. This works its way into layers of bass and a long forgotten sound.

Every man walks a more conventional route. The two step break and off beat rolls have a warm familiar feel, but develop into shards of ice and a sinister undertone courtesy of the its rumbling held bassline. It is punctuated by vocal interludes, a rising pad and more ice shards. "Every man has to walk through hell to reach his paradise."

Proceedings are bought to a close by Control, which incorporates bongos, a female vocal, and lush pads. The listener is taken on a hypnotic journey and control is totally assumed by the music.

Supported by Krust, Doc Scott, Loxy, Resound, Dabs, Code, Mauoq, Justice, Dexta, Books, Enorme, Cryogenics, DJ Trax
